Are you interested in telling stories to adults?
Whitehorse Manningham Libraries have volunteers to assist in the delivery of an outreach program, involving telling stories to adults. This interactive program runs in collaboration with aged care facilities in the cities of Whitehorse and Manningham.
Prior to each session, all storytellers are provided with a kit containing information on a theme. Kits may include stories, poems, jokes or other items that may ignite conversation. All volunteer storytellers are provided with training, supervision and ongoing support throughout the program.
The time commitment for this role is approximately 3-4 hours per month. Each volunteer runs a monthly one hour storytelling session within an aged care facility. A minimum commitment of 2 years to this role is preferred, as the relationship between the volunteer and the participants is vital to the success of this program.
To be successful in this volunteer role you will need the following:
• A clear speaking voice
• A good sense of humour
• Excellent expressive English language skills
• The ability and confidence to engage with residents and staff of aged care facilities
• Confidence to tell stories and share information with a group, and the skill to stimulate conversation, laughter and reminiscence.
As travel to the aged care facility is required, volunteers must have a current driver’s license and their own vehicle.
There are currently no volunteer vacancies for this role.
